What can the assassination of Charlie Kirk teach us about political polarization—and the way we communicate with people who disagree with us?
In this segment from my conversation with David Deighton, I ask him directly about Charlie Kirk’s assassination. David describes the killing as tragic and discusses how political polarization, digital media, and the messages we consume can contribute to an increasingly divided culture.
But the conversation ultimately becomes about something bigger: **talking to each other again.** David argues that we need spaces where people can express their views and actually be heard—not preached at—and that we should intentionally meet and talk with people outside our own groups.
He also reflects on how encountering people with different ideas can sometimes change the way we see the world and concludes that Charlie Kirk’s assassination was an act of violence that, in an ideal world, never needed to happen.
